Works by Hanne Keis
10 July - 24 October 2021
Hanne Keis (1946-2019) excelled as a sculptor through studies in ceramics and sculpture at the Jutland Academy of Arts in 1969-1974. Throughout her career, nature and especially water have been a great source of inspiration for her. Keis was drawn to the harmonious rhythms of the water and swirling patterns of movement, and she carried on these qualities in her works.
With her sculptural water stairs, she explored how the dynamic sound universe of water could have an impact on mental and physical well-being. The water stairs had aesthetic and sensory qualities, but also a more functional and practical dimension, which she later in her career moved further away from.
In recent decades, Keis was gripped by the creation of angel sculptures. She was a great supporter of Rudolf Steiner's philosophy - anthroposophy - which understands the world from a whole of both the physical and the spiritual world cosmos. For Hanne Keis, the spiritual world was very clear, and she had strong feelings for the angels she shaped. In her characters, she materialized her supersensible worldview.
The sculptures show her fascination with spirituality, female spiritual energies and nature's ability to form patterns and shapes herself.
The exhibition "Spiritual Atelier" can be experienced in Skovvilla at KunstCentret Silkeborg Bad in the period 10 July - 24 October 2021
