Silent Extinction

19 December 2024 – 21 April 2025

Sideshow in Skovvilla
Silent Extinction is an intimate encounter with the planet’s disappearing coral creatures. Through a macro-optical video portrait of the coral species Fungia, the work reflects on the existence and fragility of nature in the Anthropocene.
The video work was created by visual documentarian and video artist Maja Friis in close collaboration with coral researcher Elena Bollati, postdoc at the University of Copenhagen. The work is based on Maja Friis’s many years of work with cinematic behavioral studies and macro-optical investigations of the existence, movement behavior and profound transformations of various coral species in response to global warming.
