Imaginature

10 May - 24 August 2025
Families and playfulness of all ages can now once again visit a sensory exhibition in our large halls
– yes, in fact it fills the entire house indoors. The audience will see an exhibition that plays with the
visitors' imagination and invites them to explore.
The team behind the exhibition shows, in an old-fashioned way, what artists can create with their hands, from often simple materials that are brought together in tableaus that take the viewer into a familiar or new story in a different way. This time, the team has taken nature in a broad sense - both the one that is out there in the green and the one that may not be real, but still lives in our imagination.
In particular, the fact that we humans can imagine things is an important driving force for these Czech artists, hence the title IMAGINATURE, which combines imagination and nature. Artistic director, theatre person Matêj Forman talks about the background of their work:
"We are all surrounded by large amounts of cheap things and often commercial products, and therefore there is a strong inner urge to locate, encounter and rediscover the real and beautiful things. We want to give people access to a unique art world of beauty and to the freedom to play and wonder."
The exhibition contains many interactive elements, it is welcome to be touched, and it will let the audience sense in several ways. You can dive into the expression of the individual artists. The exhibition, 900 m2 in total, was developed especially for the Silkeborg Bad Art Center by Matêj Forman in close collaboration with an experienced team of Czech artists and skilled technicians. A windmill has been erected in the park, created by Martin Lhotak and moved to the Sculpture Park at the Silkeborg Bad Art Center for the occasion.
On the first floor there is also a workshop area where all guests can try their hand at various drawing techniques all summer long.
The concept of 'sensory exhibition' was introduced in Denmark by Brandts Klædefabrik (now Kunst Museum Brandts) shortly after their opening in the late 1980s. Nikolaj Kunsthal and KunstCentret Silkeborg Bad followed up, several times in collaboration across the country and also solo with this special format, the basic premise of which is to invite the youngest to a playful encounter with art, where there is room for children's way of experiencing. Each time, a contemporary artist or a group of artists is invited by the given art hall to create the idea for the exhibition.
At KunstCentret Silkeborg Bad, this is now the 7th time that a sensory exhibition has been held.
