The Institution

The Art Centre Silkeborg Bad is a self-governing institution that was founded in 1992. According to the institution's charter, its purpose is to "create and operate an international art centre that is to comprise among other things changing exhibitions and a permanent art collection on the Silkeborg Bad property". So far, this has been interpreted in practice as a point of departure for operating an art hall with changing exhibitions in the indoor areas and a gradual expansion of a permanent own collection of sculptures in the park area.

The Art Centre has been established in some of the five buildings that belonged to the old spa facility. The remaining buildings have been leased to different parties, including the amateur theatre Silkeborg Ny Teater, a kindergarten, and nurseries.

The Art Centre Silkeborg Bad is a member of FKD (Foreningen af Kunsthaller i Danmark (Association of Art Halls in Denmark)). See: www.kunsthaller.dk

The Future

Expecting the continued support of the Municipality of Silkeborg, the

Friends of Silkeborg Bad, and various funds, a monumental effort is being made at continuing the excellent start with which the Art Centre Silkeborg Bad has met. This will be achieved primarily by continuing to present a good, varied and interesting exhibition program with local, regional, and international aspects.

The objective is well-defined: The Art Centre Silkeborg Bad must continue to be a source of contemplation and renewal to guests of all ages and of all nationalities. Part of the purpose as it was worded by the founders back in 1992 was "Silkeborg Bad must develop into an international art centre with a focus on formative, creational art".

Thus, the future will hold partly the ongoing exhibition activity and

partly the development of other activities with a point of departure in the possibilities offered by the buildings on the locality.

The broadly envisaged communication strategy that was presented for the first time with the exhibition entitled Fuglefri (1998), for the second time with the thematic exhibition VANDSKEL-WATERSHED (2002), and in 2006 with the thematic exhibition TREES OF LIFE. ART - CULTURE - NATURE will be continued.
